The College’s Arts facilities include a 300 seat Theatre & Performance space, with associated Gallery spaces. There are also purpose-built studios for drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fabric and textiles disciplines.
Budding musicians mix in a modern recording studio, 10 music practice rooms, and MIDI computer labs with the historical tones of a piano played by the greats of world jazz, purchased from Bennett’s Lane Jazz Club. Dancers have access to two purpose built Dance studios, and a designated Theatre Studies rehearsal space.
Arts program areas have their own state-of-the-art Mac and PC labs furnished with i-Pads, video facilities, full design software suites, animation and web design software.
Our Trade Training Centre provides facilities for computer-aided drafting, cutting and forming equipment for model making and prototyping, which can be accessed by Arts students for specific projects.
Music & Performance
NCAT’s performance space is a working theatre. It’s designed with industry standard equipment for students to get a real-world sense of how it might be to perform and work in a commercial theatre. Along side the studio there are 340 seat Auditorium with sprung stage flooring, retractable raked seating, a high end projector and screen, and an Adamson speaker system.
Students are able to record using some of the finest equipment that you would normally only find in professional recording studios. This includes:
- Music recital room with a Kawai grand piano.
- Ten music rehearsal rooms.
- Two computer labs, each equipped with twenty-five music workstations comprising Arturia keyboards, Arrow audio interfaces, Apple iMacs with Pro Tools, Ableton Live and other audio & music programs installed.
- Two purpose built dance studios with sprung floors.
- Purpose built Theatre Studies room with sprung floor and theatre lighting.
Trades & Technology
The College’s Trade Training Centre is a unique, cutting-edge $17 million dollar facility with extensive sustainable and renewable energy areas for green-specific skills development. Industry standard equipment delivers workplace simulation, with most high-level equipment donated via industry in recognition of the importance of up-skilling students in current and emerging technologies. All classrooms are fitted out with new computers and electronic, interactive Smart Boards.
Building and construction boasts an extensive workshop space with attached theory classrooms. Three large specialist-training areas are dedicated to electrotechnology, integrated technologies and telecommunications, supported by a Rooftop Renewable Energy Training facility. Automotive workshops include access to the latest engine analysis equipment.
Engineering workshops are furnished with Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machines, laser cutters, milling machine, dedicated welding and thermo-cutting bays. The furniture and woodwork workshop includes a specialist musical instrument making and repair area with an industry standard CNC routing machine. A pattern making and foundry facility is available for the training of apprentices.
